One week short course on “Satellite Communication (SATCOM) Applications for Disaster Management” was conducted during 17-21 October in online mode. The course was targeted towards engineering students and working professionals of NE region. The subject matter of the course was planned to provide basic understanding of the satellite communication &s navigation technologies and apprising about the diverse applications of SATCOM & SATNAV with special emphasis on disaster management applications. A total of 58 participants registered with diverse backgrounds.
Course Brochure and schedule was published in NESAC Capacity Building portal and was sent to leading Engineering Colleges & Technical Education Institutions of NE region. Faculties were a mix from various ISRO Centers including Space Applications Center (SAC), Ahmedabad, Satellite Communication Program Office (SCPO), ISRO HQ, Bengaluru, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun and resource persons from all NER State Disaster Management Agencies (SDMA)s and West Bengal SDMA as well as from NESAC. One lecture was arranged from Industry Expert from Hughes Communications (India) Pvt. Ltd. The course was managed through Google Classroom Platform
The valedictory program cum concluding session was hosted on October 21st, 2022.Participants as well as few resource persons were present in online mode. The resource persons and participants expressed their experience of the course. Dr. S.P. Aggarwal, Director, NESAC in his remark highlighted the importance of emergency communication during disaster through various case studies. He congratulated the participants on their successful completion of the course and commended the Satellite Communication & UAV Activities Division (SUD) team for organizing the course. Shri Ramani Kumar Das, Head, SUD and Shri Anjan Debnath, SUD, NESAC served as the Course Director and Course Officer for the course respectively.
