The Indian Meteorological Society (IMS) – Shillong Chapter and the NESAC jointly organized a program to celebrate the World Environment Day on 5th June 2023. The program started with a welcome address by Dr. S.P. Aggarwal, Director, NESAC, who highlighted on the importance of environment protection and better plastic management. This was followed by an invited lecture by Prof. Hari Prasad Sarma, Former Pro-Vice Chancellor and the Head of the Department of Environmental Science, Gauhati University, on the topic “Plastic pollution and the control measures”. Prof. Sarma highlighted the initiatives of Govt. of India to control the pollution in addition to a informed lecture on the pollution control in India. The program ended with the inauguration of the “Weeklong Plantation Program” by Director, NESAC with plantation of a fruit plant at NESAC office campus.
