One day training on “Applications of Geospatial technology for acreage estimation of selected crops and development of a mobile app for planning and monitoring of Crop Cutting Experiment (CCE) in Meghalaya” was jointly organized by NESAC and Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Govt. of Meghalaya at NESAC Outreach Facility, Umiam on 26th April, 2022. About 40 Scientists and officials from Directorates of Economics and Statistics, Meghalaya, Directorate of Agriculture, Meghalaya and NESAC participated in the training programme.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. B.K. Handique, Scientist ‘SF’ & Principal Investigator, CCE Project. Delivering his opening remarks, Dr. S. P. Aggarwal, Director, NESAC, highlighted the role of using advanced geospatial technologies for developmental planning in the region. Shri. B. G. Momin, Research Officer, DES, Meghalaya gave the general overview of the SSS (Support for Statistical Strengthening) Program, which was followed by a detailed presentation on the project implementation by Dr. B. K. Handique.
Smt. A.M. Laloo, Director, DES, Meghalaya in her address lauded the efforts of the NESAC team in developing the CCE Mobile App and the Dashboard system along with the remote sensing based acreage estimation for important crops in selected districts of the State. The inaugural session was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Chandan Goswami, Scientist ‘SE’, NESAC.
In the technical session, demonstration and hands-on exercise of GAGAN based CCE Mobile app to the officials of DES, Meghalaya, Directorate of Agriculture, Meghalaya was taken by Dr. Pradesh Jena Scientist ‘SD’ and Kum. Dimpee Das, Technical Staff. This was followed by the demonstration of CCE Dashboard by Dr. Francis Dutta, Scientist ’SC’, NESAC. The training program ended with a feedback session wherein the participants appreciated the efforts of the Project team of NESAC and suggested a few modifications in the beta version of the app and the dashboard system.
